The Massage Book by George Downing is a 184-page cloth-bound hardcover published by The Bookworks, Random House, 1972, illustrated by Anne Kent Rush, Book Club Edition. The dust jacket has general surface wear and impression mark that extends to the hardcover. Apart from the impression marks on the cover, there is some mild foxing to the page edges but otherwise the pages are clean and unmarked and the binding is tight. The condition is good.

Massage as practiced at Esalen Institute can be easily learned by anyone, and this book tells you how. Kent and myself (the illustrator and author) are members of the staff at Esalen in Big Sur and in San Francisco, California. We have lead numerous workshops in massage and also in breath therapy, body awareness, and gestalt. We have tried to make this book an extension of our work at Esalen.
There are chapters on mixing oils, working oApart from the impression marks to the cloth bound harn the floor, building a massage table, and using your hands; a long section on strokes, body part by body part; chapters on how to develop your own massage style, on the relation of massage to meditation, breathing, and Tai Chi Chuan; and much more.
