The Cat and the Curmudgeon is a 295 page hardcover measuring 8 1/2" x 5 1/2".  The dust jacket has water staining to the back but the back book cover is not affected in the least.  The book itself shows little use, with clean unmarked pages and tight, straight binding.

Here we find Cleveland and Polar Bear each still stubbornly holding their turf in many a battle, both domestic and foreign.  The chapter titles tell the tale:  "There Goes What's-His-Name"--the story of Polar Bear's exasperating refusal to be what apparently everybody in the world wanted him to be--a celebrity; "Cat Power," which contains both author's and cat's reactions to the more hilarious of the eleven thousand letters the first book prompted; "First Dog," Polar Bear's chance meeting in Central Park with a stray Olde English sheepdog, the very kind Amory first had as a child; "On the Cusp," when an unusual incident forces the author to carry the search for Polar Bear's horoscope all the way to, yes, Nancy Reagan.  In "You Ought to be in Pictures" and "Meanwhile, Back at the Ranch, I Read Him His Rights," Cleveland must mediate as Polar Bear decides his rights and wrongs.  In "Romance a la Cat Blanche," however, it is Polar Bear who, when romance rears its head for bachelor Amory, is forced to take matters into his own paws.  As for the last chapter--well, we won't spoil it here.  Suffice it to say that it has to do with Polar Bear, Cleveland and a very special kitten
