Book Summary

Since the last revision of this invaluable book of reference for all who are connected with or interested in horses, still more research has brought to light enough new material to warrant another edition.  More than two hundred additional entries now bring the number to over 3,700.  They cover all aspects of the equestrian world:  definitions and explanations of terms, both current and obsolescent; references to personalities past and present; descriptions of the most important races and lists of their winners--complete at the time of going to press--in Britain, Canada, Australia and the United States of America; and information about breeds of horses and their breed societies.

For the novice and horseman alike there are twenty-six long articles by authoritative writers, which have been brought up to date where necessary.  They include:  The Arabian Thoroughbred; Bits and Saddles; Bloodstock; Breeding; Circus Horses; Coaching; Dressage; Equitation; The Evolution of the Horse; Farriery; Feeding; Fox Hunting; Show Hacks and Cobs; The Hackney; The Heavy Horse; Horse Trials; The Show Hunter; Show Jumping in Great Britain; Care of the Mare and Foal; Mountain and Moorland Ponies of the British Isles; Polo; The Race Horse; Saddlery and Harness making; The British Show Pony; Stable Management; Veterinary Science and the Veterinary Profession.
