Book Summary

Madeleine returns for more mischief and a merry Christmas adventure!  Something is not right with the famous "twelve little girls in two straight lines."  All are sick in bed with head colds except brave Madeleine, who must run the school, for even the indomitable Miss Clavel is not feeling very well.  But during this Christmas crisis Madeline finds a remarkable helper in the rug-selling magician.  Soon his spells have the school crockery flying back into its cupboard, and twelve rugs flying twelve girls home for the holidays.  Everyone gets her Christmas wish when Madeleine is in charge!

In this rediscovered work by Ludwig Bemelmans, Madeleine once again exhibits the spunk and vitality that have made her one of the most popular children's book characters of all time.  Bemelmans' humorous verse perfectly matches the free-flowing line and vibrant color of his paintings, full of the lights of Paris and the warm glow of holiday cheer.
